I recently published a workbook for those who are trying to create community. The workbook includes twenty outlines or scripts for leading community-building circles. They were developed for humanistic or progressive religious communities but will be useful in other settings as well. Some are based on the Ethical Culture movement's ideas, and some are more generic (and even the Ethical Culture-oriented ones can be easily adapted for other contexts).
The structure used is influenced by many sources and the experience of more than 40 years of participating in or leading community-building circles. I tried to keep the format relatively simple, to make it easier to lead a circle. Facilitation skills are not really necessary.
Topics include: Beginning, Beloved Community, Joy, Dignity, Freedom, Inclusion, Like-Heartedness, and more.
You can order it at Amazon. It was the quickest and easiest way to get it into circulation. And yeah, I know, Amazon.
eBook: if you order it with KindleUnlimited, you have to actually read many pages (I’m not sure how many) if you want me to be compensated at all for the use.
Paperback (recommended): — if you ordered an early copy and got the messed-up introduction chapter, email me and I’ll send you an errata page you can print and insert!
Purchasing the book helps make it possible for me to produce more such materials (so does a paid subscription to this substack).
